Overview | Key contributions
Thiochemicals Research builds
on decades of experience in
sulfur and nitrogen chemistry to
develop new products and solutions
for nearly every major
segment of the chemicals
industry. In close cooperation
with Process Technology, we
play a key role in the development
of new, improved manufacturing
processes for our
products.
 In addition to providing basic
intermediates and building
blocks for other more complex
materials, we focus a large part
of our efforts on developing
technology-based solutions to
solve customer problems.
Based on our fundamental
understanding of these
chemistries, we are constantly
discovering new ways to use
existing molecules and transforming
them into commercial
opportunities.
The Thiochemicals group manufactures
intermediates for
agricultural products such as
methyl mercaptan, ultimately
aiding the production of supplements
in animal feeds.
Our sulfur and amine products
serve in such applications as
intermediates in the pharmaceutical
industry and as additives
for photographic developers,
coatings, polymerization, and
water treatment, among others.

A collection of newly developed
products and innovations that
are increasing the scope of our
markets includes:
- Advantex™ alkylalkanolamine
is used as an all-purpose
additive for latex paints.
- A novel technology platform,
called biopotentiation,
involves specialty amines that
enhance the activity of commercial
biocides without having
anti-microbial activity
themselves.
- Synergex™ additive has been
developed for metalworking
to address the industry’s
recent concerns over worker
exposure to fluids contaminated
with bacteria.
- Expertise in hydroxylamine
chemistry has led to the
development of Prevaskin™
anti-skinning formulation for
alkyd paints. Prevaskin compounds
can replace the current
industry standard,
methylethylketoxine (MEKO),
which has an undesirable
odor and high toxicity.
Research and development
for Thiochemicals employs scientists
with expertise in organic
and physical chemistry, photochemistry,
surface science, electrochemistry,
and process chemistry.
Our scientists work in
close cooperation with
Marketing, Sales and
Manufacturing, as well as our
companion labs in France, to
meet the demands of customers
and markets.
